DAR Presents Good Citizens Awards

The Colonel Joseph Glover Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented its Good Citizen Awards to two Colleton County students on Friday, March 13th at its meeting. The awards were presented to Jordyn Way and Madelyn Williams.

Jordyn is the daughter of Jennifer and Ralph Way and is a senior at Colleton County High School. She serves as the historian for the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Circle of Excellence, the Science Club and is dually enrolled with USC Salkehatchie. She also volunteers at HCA Healthcare Colleton Hospital, helps with local elementary school events, assists with animal shelter fundraisers, and participates in road clean-ups. Jordyn plans to attend the College of Charleston to obtain a nursing degree in collaboration with MUSC. Her goal is to care for premature and critically ill newborns.

Madelyn Williams, the daughter of Jenny and Matt Williams, is a senior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. Madelyn serves as Senior Class president and as Varsity Cheer Captain. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is on the yearbook staff. Madelyn performs service projects with Student Council and is involved in church activities with Rice Patch Christian Church. She is dually enrolled in a course at the Technical College of the Lowcountry to earn a Patient Care Technician Certification. Madelyn plans to continue at TCL in the nursing program and become a pediatric nurse.

For the first time, students in Hampton County were given the opportunity to participate in the Good Citizens Award selection. Taryn Hanna, a senior at Hampton County High School, was selected by the school to receive the Good Citizens Award, but she was unable to attend the presentation. Taryn’s parents are Myriah and Rob Hanna. Taryn is a member of the Beta Club and FCA Club. She serves as captain of the Cross County, Track and Field, and Soccer teams. She has won numerous school and state awards as a member of all three teams. Her community service includes a week of service as a member of “Serve” and volunteering with the local animal shelter. Taryn plans to attend Charleston Southern University and major in kinesiology to become a Sports Physical Therapist.

Warren Williams, a student at Patrick Henry Academy in Hampton County, was also selected to receive the Good Citizens Award, but was unable to attend the presentation. His parents are Verona Cohen and Clark Williams. Warren is a member of Student Council and the Interact Club. Also, he is a member of Varsity Basketball and Soccer teams. Outside of school, Warren helps with services, Sunday school, and Bible study at his church. Warren plans to attend either Coastal Carolina, Lander, or Georgia Southern to major in cybersecurity. His goal is to be part of the IT world for a large corporation.
