Suspect fires from his car at three victims

Officers in Walterboro are investigating an attempted murder that occurred at the corner of Hampton and Gerideau Streets on June 13th.

According to an incident report filed with the Walterboro Police Department, officers were notified of a drive-by shooting that occurred at about 1 a.m.

The male victims – who are ages 19, 38 and 62 – were riding in a vehicle near the Gerideau and Hampton Street intersection in Walterboro when someone fired multiple times at their vehicle. The vehicle had four bullet holes in it when officers arrived on scene. The bullet holes were in the roof of the car, along the rear bumper, on the passenger side of the car and along the driver side of the car, the report states.

One of the victims told officers that they were headed to a residence on Gerideau Street to pick up his girlfriend when the shooting occurred.

Officers were told that the suspect was shooting from a burgundy car. While searching this area, officers did find three .40-caliber shell casings laying in the west bound lane of Hampton Street. A witness at the scene told officers that the suspect fired shots from the vehicle and then did a U-turn and drove toward Robertson Boulevard, according to the incident report.

The unknown suspect is facing charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm inside city limits and malicious injury to property. However, one of the victims is refusing to press charges for attempted murder.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The case is under investigation.

Cash and guns stolen from car

Guns and more than $9,000 in cash that was stuffed inside a brand name purse was stolen from inside a car in Walterboro on June 13th. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, an officer was called to an apartment complex when a man reported that his vehicle had been broken into. The male victim stated he was visiting his girlfriend when someone shattered his vehicle’s window and then stole multiple items from inside the car. The stolen items include a .38 Glock, two other guns, and a Louie Vaton book bag filled with $9,000 in cash. The suspect is unknown at this time.

Dentist employees find pizza tossed onto their cars

An officer was called to Coastal Kids Dentistry in Walterboro on June 14th when three employees of the business discovered that their cars had been vandalized. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, three employees found pizza and cheese thrown onto the hoods and windshields of their cars. The suspect is like a child, the report states. The suspect has not yet been identified but is wanted for vandalism.

Georgia woman cruises through Walterboro at 39 miles over the post speed limit

A 24-year-old Georgia woman is charged with reckless driving and possession of narcotic equipment after she was caught driving 39 miles over the posted speed limit.

The woman, who is from Savannah, Georgia, was stopped on South Jefferies Boulevard near May Street in Walterboro on June 16th when an officer clocked her going 74 mph in a 35-mph zone. This is 39 miles over the posted speed limit.

According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, an officer who stopped the woman immediately smelled marijuana coming from inside her car. The driver then admitted to having a marijuana grinder in the car. No further items were found in the car. The woman was cited and released.

Argument leads to shots fired at Walterboro gas station

A woman told Walterboro police officers that she was walking through a parking lot when she heard someone firing a gun. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, a witness told officers that he walking toward a gas station in Walterboro when he heard several gun shots being fired and then saw a white vehicle drive out of the parking lot toward Bells Highway. Officers also spoke to a woman at the nearby Travel Lodge, who said she had a verbal altercation with a man inside the store. While walking from the store toward the motel, the woman said she heard shots being fired from the vehicle that the man had left in, the report states. The woman said she did not know if she was being shot, or if the shots were fired into the air.

The case is under investigation. No arrests have yet been made.

A mobile home is tossed onto someone’s property as litter

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a Walterboro woman called law enforcement officers on June 8th when she found several items discarded on her property – including a mobile home. The unknown litter bug left behind the abandoned mobile home, along with tires and other equipment. The mobile was moved onto the woman’s property illegally and without her knowledge, the report states. The suspect is wanted for littering exceeding 500 pounds.
