In His Name-Colleton participated in "Conversations on a Bench", October 9th and 10th. The 24-hour broadcast allowed the local group to participate with over 75 other cities around the country to highlight homelessness in their communities. The event coincided with World Homeless Day. Amanda Herndon, Executive Director of In His Name-Colleton, spent 24 hours talking to residents about topic important to the homeless population. Guest on the bench included Norman Laurence of St. Jude’s Church. The church hosts the warming center during cold weather events. Other participants included Police Chief Wade Marvin, Pastor Braxton Edwards, Mary High from the Art’s Council, Pastor Gary Finch, Clarissa Kessler from the Community Action Agency, and Jenice Massalon. Herndon kept the interviews flowing with help from her team. Jenny Hiott took over duties to give Amanda a few minutes of sleep on the bench, and Dominic was able to answer question by monitoring the Facebook Broadcast. Throughout the 24-hours, locals stopped by the location to drop off supplies (socks and underwear), and plenty of food and snacks. The event, a presentation of The Citygate Network Team, was a great success.
