Chamber Music Charleston will present “From Haydn to Tango: A Fiesta for String Quartet.” The Sunday September 22nd concert will be held at the Colleton Civic Center starting with the music of the “Father of the String Quartet” Franz Joseph Haydn and then traveling across the ocean to discover the music of South America. This program demystifies classical music with entertaining anecdotes and insights that one may not expect at a traditional classical concert.

Violinists Frances Hsieh and Tomas Jakubek, violist Ben Weiss, and cellist Timothy O’Malley will perform movements from Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76, No. 1, Dvorak’s “American” String Quartet, Teresa Carreño String Quartet in B minor, and Jose Elizondo’s Danzas Latinoamericanas in addition to arrangements of such popular tangos as El Choclo and Jealousie.

Chamber Music Charleston is no stranger to Colleton performing at Edisto Beach as well as at Walterboro Bethel United Methodist Church annual Christmas concerts. Tickets are $15 and available at the Colleton Civic Center office, the Colleton Museum and Farmers’ Market, as well as at the door that afternoon. Performance starts at 3, doors open at 2:30.
