Walterboro Lions Club Hold Its Annual Eye Screening

Posted

Walterboro Lions Club, again this year, is collaborating with school nurses as they conduct annual health screenings. The Walterboro Lions, along with St. George and Summerville Lions Clubs, purchased a camera that checks a person’s vision.  This camera can check for vision concerns for ages from 6 months to 100.  Local club members have used the camera, which checks a student’s eyes in seconds, to assist the nurses with vision screenings.

Schools checked so far are Black Street Early Childhood Center, Northside Elementary, and Hendersonville Elementary.  At those schools 679 students have been checked and 84 have been recommended for further evaluation.  Nurses were given a printout for each student with a vision concern and  a discount coupon for Walmart Eye Care.  The Club is pleased Walmart Eye Care joined in this service to Colleton County youth.

In the next few weeks vision screenings will be held at Bells Elementary Forest Hills Elementary, Colleton Middle (Oct 16 - 18), Cottageville (Oct 28), and Colleton High (Nov 7 and 8).  The Lions also cooperates with private and church schools for vision screening.

The Walterboro Lions vision screening is free and they are willing to do vision screening for local clubs, churches, and other organizations.  They may contact the Lions by emailing WalterboroLions@gmail.com.
