Meet Alex Begin #yourColletonFirefighter on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter/Flight Paramedic Begin is assigned to Stations 9, 19, 20 and C.A.R.E. Flight on “A” Shift. Alex joined Colleton County Fire-Rescue in 2020. Here is more information about FF/FP-C Begin:

Alex started as a volunteer first responder for his hometown EMS/Fire department in Swansea, Massachusetts, at the age of sixteen. What originally started out as a way to earn community service hours for the National Honor Society quickly changed to a love for the medical field and an adrenaline rush of firefighting. Alex’s father is a paramedic of more than twenty years, and his mother is a nurse at a level 1 pediatric hospital. Therefore, it was no surprise when he told his parents he wanted to pursue a career in EMS/Fire. Before moving to South Carolina in 2019 and joining Charleston County EMS, he worked for two different ambulance services. Alex was hired at Colleton County Fire-Rescue in 2020 as a paramedic; he currently has ten total years of EMS experience and three years’ experience as a firefighter. Recently, he achieved a lifelong dream and became a flight paramedic for C.A.R.E Flight in Walterboro.

When Alex is not working, he enjoys spending time with his brothers. They like to travel and play at different golf courses, work out at the gym, and lounge around by the fire pit. He is a “foodie” who is always up for trying a new restaurant. Alex’s favorite quote and words he lives by: “Chase your dreams because they are not going to stop for you!”
