Get to know #yourColletonfirefighter Dan Wright on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter/EMT Wright joined Colleton Fire Rescue in 2023. Firefighter/EMT Wright is assigned to the floater position on “B” shift. Here is a little more information about FF/EMT Wright:

After graduating high school, Dan enlisted in the Marine Corps. A Charleston native, he quickly found himself on the other side of the country stationed at 29 Palms. He served this great nation for four years as an Infantry Rifleman with the First Marine Division. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he moved back to the lowcountry and began volunteering with C&B Fire Department. Dan credits his motivation to join the fire service to his “inability to sit still.” He enrolled in the Resident Fire Academy held at South Carolina Fire Academy and was offered a full time position with St. Andrews FD after graduation. During his time spent at South Carolina Fire Academy, he completed the majority of his basic fire training. Wanting to further his education, Dan decided to enroll in EMT school at Lowcountry Regional EMS Council. EMT students are required to participate in clinicals in conjunction with classwork, and his clinical assignment happened to land him at Colleton County Fire-Rescue. During his clinical time, he met several of his fellow #ColletonFirefighters who encouraged him to apply with the department after receiving his certification. Dan said, “I really felt welcomed during my clinical time; I felt like I found home!” In January 2023, he accepted a full time position. Dan serves as the “B” shift floater; this unique opportunity allows him to work in all the platoons throughout the county. The floater position is designed to cover open slots on shift days, which significantly reduces elective and forced overtime.

When Dan isn’t working, he enjoys riding his motorcycle and longboarding. For more information visit Colleton County Fire Rescue Facebook.
