Get to know #yourColletonfirefighter Andrew McCaskill on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter/EMT McCaskill is assigned to the Station 1 Platoon on “A” Shift.

Growing up, Andrew’s friends were explorers for Colleton County Fire-Rescue, and when they would run out the door to respond to an emergency, he thought, “Man that’s cool!” This motivated him to join Colleton’s Explorer program. Throughout high school, Andrew excelled as an explorer. He took a leave of absence to attend Francis Marion University, and after graduation, Andrew moved back to Colleton County. The rumor is that he walked into his house to unpack and before his bags hit the floor, he was out the door headed to Fire-Rescue Headquarters to get reinstated as a volunteer. Although Andrew began a career outside of the fire service, he continued to further his fire and medical education. He completed basic fire school and gained his NREMT-B certification. In May 2022, Andrew took a leap of faith. He turned his hobby into a career and joined CCFR as a full-time firefighter. Always eager to learn and help his community, Andrew continues to take classes, responds to calls off duty, and has recently started training as a dispatcher in the Communication Center on his days off.

When Andrew is not serving his community, he enjoys keeping himself very busy. He has a host of hobbies ranging from farming, to coaching sports, and even surfing. He recently purchased a boat and has enjoyed exploring the waterways of the Lowcountry. When he feels like being less adventurous, he can be found on the golf course or spending time with family.
