Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Tyler Allen on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter-EMT Allen is assigned to the Station 9 Platoon on “B” Shift. Here is more information about Firefighter-EMT Allen:

Tyler was motivated to join the fire service by some high school friends. The group would often share stories about their interactions with the public and fellow firefighters. Tyler, looking for something to pass the time, decided to join the volunteer department in 2001. He immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. After high school, Tyler joined the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to 1st FAST (Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team). After his time in FAST, he was assigned to the 3rd LAR (Light Armored Reconninces) in 29 Palms. After numerous combat deployments and at the end of his contract in 2006, he decided to trade his combat gear for fire gear. In 2007, he was hired as a career firefighter. He joined Colleton County Fire-Rescue in 2013. Reflecting on his time in the fire service he says, “I am extremely fortunate to have been brought up in the fire service by people who had been on the job for several years. Their experience, knowledge, and passion to serve their community really motivated me to be the best firefighter I can be.” Through their experiences, Tyler was taught three things: never stop learning, train harder than the day before, and always do your best to serve the citizens of your community. In the same way he was brought up in the fire service, Tyler tries to always help fellow firefighters. “I was taught the fire department isn’t just a job, but a family who is there for the community and each other.”

On his days off, Tyler enjoys anything that involves being outside. Tyler and his wife, Angela, enjoy fishing, hunting, and exploring the lowcountry in their kayaks. When the couple decides to slow down a bit, they find themselves hanging out with friends.
