Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Josh Blasko on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter/EMT Blasko is assigned to the Station 1 Platoon on “B” Shift. Here is more information on Firefighter/EMT Blasko:

Josh entered the fire service in 2006 after joining Hartsgrove Twp Fire Department Rome, Ohio. He was motivated to join the fire service because of his desire to help those in need. Shortly after joining Hartsgrove, he enrolled in formal fire classes and obtained his Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certifications. Josh wanted to further help his community and decided to enroll in EMT School. After completing EMT school, he was offered a part time position at South Central Ambulance District and managed to land another part time job with Saybrook Township Fire Department. Not only was Josh juggling a volunteer fire job and two part time jobs, he was also in the construction industry. He is a skilled carpenter, an all-around handyman, and definitely not a stranger to hard work. Josh made the decision to leave the construction world, but full time fire positions in Ohio are not easy to come by. Therefore, he decided to look elsewhere and moved with his family to South Carolina in 2016 after landing a job with Colleton County Fire-Rescue. Moving to the lowcountry was just what Josh had in mind: warm weather, beaches, and plenty of places for him to dive. Josh has been diving since 2009 and is a Certified Public Safety Diver. His construction talents do not go unnoticed at Colleton County Fire-Rescue. He has made several improvements to the training facility at Station 19, specifically the training tower. He constructed a new stairway and multi-level deck system for the tower, which allow his fellow firefighters to train safer and more efficiently for above grade rescues.

In his time off, he enjoys carpentry and being with his family outdoors and on the boat. Josh also helps out with his children’s marching band and appreciates the time he has fulfilling his duties as a “Band Dad.”
