Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Doug Mixson Jr. on #firefighterfriday. Captain Mixson serves as the volunteer Captain for Station 23 serving the Ashton community and has been serving since 1998. Here is more on Captain Mixson:

As a volunteer, Doug Mixson, Jr. currently serves as Station Captain for Station 23 in western Colleton County. Professionally, he serves as a Corporate Budget Coordinator for a c-suite with the United States Postal Service - Headquarters and has been with the postal service for nearly twenty-three years. Doug holds an Associates Degree in Accounting & a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Purdue University Global.

The driving factor which led Doug to become a volunteer was seeing his father volunteer as a firefighter/first responder since he was a young child. Additionally, his uncle, Gene Rushing, was the Fire Chief for Hampton County for many years, and in his younger years he got to spend an awful lot of time tagging along with “Uncle Gene.” Seeing the sacrifices his father made to help others inspired him to want to make a difference in his community by volunteering his time to help those in need at times of an emergency.

In his limited free time, Doug enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, playing with an old Mustang he has restored, or riding his Harley Davidson.

Doug said, “If you are not volunteering currently, consider it. Our county needs volunteers, and you might just be the one who makes a difference in your community helping someone in need, at quite possibly the lowest point in their life. Looking back over twenty-five years of service, I have no regrets for volunteering my time to help those in need. Furthermore, if you are looking for a rewarding career, consider Colleton County Fire-Rescue. The agency has state of the art equipment with an amazing team to work alongside you as you help the citizens of Colleton County!”
