Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Collin Unwin on #firefighterfriday. Firefighter-EMT Unwin joined the department in 2022 and is assigned to the Station 19 Platoon on “C” Shift.

Collin and his brother, a firefighter for the Charleston Fire Department, are generational firefighters. Their father was a firefighter for Fairlawn Fire Department in Ohio, and now works for Mount Pleasant Fire Department. Collin was inspired to join the fire service after visiting his father at work and learning of his brother’s decision to be a full-time firefighter. He knew that he would someday join his father and brother in this field of service. Collin joined the Twinsburg Fire Department as an explorer and began learning the ropes. He completed his National Registry Emergency Medical Technician training at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and completed his fire training at Cuyahoga Community College. In 2021, he moved to South Carolina and gained employment with a private ambulance service. During his time at the private service, he wanted to get back into the fire service and applied to Colleton County Fire-Rescue. According to Collin, “It’s (CCFR) the best of both worlds. I am able to work on the ambulance and the fire truck.”

During Collin’s free time, he enjoys playing the guitar, a good video game, and remote-control cars. He also likes to get outside for some clay pigeon and target shooting, traveling, and spending time with his family and girlfriend, Jordan.
