Workshop fire cause substantial damage

A fire in a workshop located on Forks Road caused substantial damage to the metal building, tools, equipment and two vehicles.

The fire was reported at approximately 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 21.

The shop owner advised a heater was left on in the building and spread to nearby materials and flammable liquids stored in the building. He noticed smoke coming from the building and attempted to extinguish the fire before calling 911. F

ire-Rescue Engine 10 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in the building. Two handlines were deployed to the structure and firefighter-paramedics had to cut a portion of the garage door in order to enter the building and extinguish the fire.

Leaves and straw on the roof also ignited and had to be extinguished.

The fire burned through the wall on the rear of the building, igniting grass, brush and some materials stored in the back of the shop.

Two vehicles inside that were being repaired at the time of the fire also received damage.

Crews were on the scene for several hours.
