It looks as if Williams’ current mayor will be reinstated to office in the coming election, as he is the only person who has officially filed to run for the mayoral role.

The Town of Williams is holding its municipal election on Tuesday, April 12th.

Write-in candidates can still enter the mayoral race on election day.

Evans said he decided to run again as the town’s mayor because many of the water projects he has been heavily involved in are still ongoing: the Town of Williams has been going through several large water improvement projects.

“We are closer than we were, but we still have a way to go,” he said.

Recently, the town installed a treated water system, which was funded through state grant funds. Town leaders have also done water tank upgrades.

In the near future, Evans said he and the town’s other leaders will be focused on abandoning the old water system that lies under roads. Evans said he will try to secure grant funds for this project, as well.

In addition to electing a mayor, the Town of Williams is electing four council seats.

Currently, Mark Will and Kris Jordan have filed to run for Williams Town Council.

This election is also going to occur on April 12th.

According to Angela Upchurch, executive director of the Colleton County Office of Elections, the Town of Williams is the last municipality in Colleton County to move their elections to November of odd number years. This will occur in November of 2025.

“The SEC is encouraging all municipalities in the state to have their elections in November of odd years.  They are trying to promote Municipal Election Day,” said Upchurch.
