What responsibilities come under the purview of County Council? What are the functions of a Councilmember?
The responsibilities of a Councilmember are to promote social needs, economic needs, adopting operating budgets, manager of land property and assets while maintaining a commitment to improve service and meeting human needs. The county must hold productive meetings and writing grants for funding of various projects.
• In your view, what are the most pressing issues facing our county, and how do you envision addressing these issues collaboratively with other elected officials and community stakeholders?
As a county we need tech schools to prepare young men and women to enter the work force in the fields of opportunity. We need more infrastructure and the ability to welcome new businesses to our area.
• Economic development is a key priority for our county’s growth. In your view, what are the most pressing economic development issues facing our county?
Our county needs better water systems, waste systems and better schools. As a community we need to improve living standards and a higher level of education. We need more workers and higher pay. We need to expand manufacturing and investments to create new jobs.
• For the entire county, including Edisto, Cottageville, Lodge, Walterboro, Smoaks, etc, community engagement is crucial for effective governance. How do you plan to engage with residents and solicit their input on important county issues and how do you ensure that diverse voices are heard and considered in the decision making process?
The council needs to meet with town leaders and people through out the county. They need input from all local residents to see how they are impacted on issues in which the council is focused on. To answer this question truthfully and to the best of my ability – Residents needs are very important.
