The Colleton Prep volleyball team split a pair of games this past week.

The Warhawks won the first set 25-11 against Jefferson Davis Academy. The team remained competitive for the next two sets before losing 25-27 and 23-25. In the deciding fourth set, Jefferson Davis won 14-25 to win the match.

Coach Dave Roper stated, “Jefferson Davis is a really good team, and we competed with them the entire game. Hopefully the next time we play them the outcome will be different. Despite the loss, I was happy with the way we played.

Against Calhoun Academy, Colleton Prep was able to win in straight sets with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17. Roper said, “The girls really showed up and played excellent defense. We actually improved from the last time we played them.”

Roper noted that the Warhawks are getting great defensive play from defensive specialists Linely Jones and Ava Murray, with Caroline Murray being a force to reckon with at the net, scoring and blocking the ball. He also recognized Kylie Roper for doing a good job of setting and playing the ball to the outside hitters.

“I am really excited about the way the team is coming together with every practice and game. You can see the chemistry and teamwork getting better and better every day. The girls are adjusting well to each other and starting to anticipate each other’s moves. I’m super proud of the girls with their play and improvement they are making,” said the coach.

It’s also to be noted that the Warhawk Middle School volleyball team won their first match ever.

This week the Warhawks will travel to John Paul for a match Tuesday night before returning home for a match with Holly Hill on Wednesday.
