The Colleton Prep varsity boys basketball team earned their first win of the season in a 42-31 decision over non-conference opponent Jefferson Davis Academy last week. The War Hawks suffered losses against Hilton Head Christian (45-9) and Thomas Heyward Academy (49-27).

In addition, the War Hawks first-year head coach, Bogie Boggess, resigned over Christmas break after accepting the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Operations at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.

“I will always appreciate my time at Colleton Prep even though it was short-lived,” said Coach Boggess. “Everyone treated me like family and for that I will be forever grateful.”

According to CPA assistant boys coach and head varsity girls coach, Tyler Davis, he will serve as the head coach for both the boys and girls varsity teams and both junior varsity teams for the remainder of the season.

Colleton Prep Athletic Director Greg Langdale did not respond to a request for a statement on Boggess’s resignation.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to step-in as the new varsity boys head coach,” said Coach Tyler Davis. “These players never give up although it has been a tough season for them. We are just having a tough time scoring the basketball right now. They came out on fire against a good and scrappy Jefferson Davis team. The players did all the things they needed to do to come away with the road win. We are going to continue to work on limiting our turnovers and put a new offense in, so I am excited to see how they play after getting the first win under their belts and being able to build some confidence.”

Against Hilton Head Christian on the road Tuesday January 4, Jeb Crews, Braeden Hiers, West Brown, and Wylan Sheffield each scored 2 points and Will Brady scored 1 point.

In the home win over Jefferson Davis the following evening, Jeb Crews led with 13 points and Colton Daniels added 9 points. Other scoring included Hiers with 8 points; West Brown with 6 points; Bryce Kinard with 3 points; and Will Brady with 3 points.
