Walterboro native part of U.S. Navy project

PRESS RELEASE. A Walterboro native is working in the U.S. Navy as part of a construction project.

On April 19th, in Gulfport, Miss., Builder 3rd Class Brent McMillan from Walterboro, S.C., assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, measures between support beams during the heavy construction training course onboard Naval Construction Training Center Gulfport.

NMCB 1 is conducting an intense homeport training plan to expand their ability to execute construction, humanitarian assistance, and theater operations.

With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, U.S. Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy.
