Walterboro City Council is scheduled to hear concerns about a sign being destroyed by speeders and a homeless persons’ encampment during its regular monthly meeting this Tuesday.
The meeting is at 6:15 p.m. at City Hall, and is open to the public (it is not live-streamed). Public input is allowed, on agenda items, under agenda item two.
During “presentations”, Dr. John Gallagher, D.C., will discuss a letter that he has sent to the Mayor and City Council. It indicates that Colleton Chiropractic’s sign has been destroyed by vehicles traveling too fast at a curve on Bells Highway. Also, Gallagher says there are “continued issues with homeless populations in the City setting up camp beside our office.”
The letter was sent Sept. 21, requesting the chance to present before council on Oct. 6.
Also scheduled to make a presentation at Tuesday’s meeting is Derek McDaniel to present Dominion Energy’s Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program.
The meeting’s call to order will include an Invocation by the Rev. Newman Lawrence, St. Jude’s Church, and the Pledge of Allegiance presented by Libertas Academy. Council will conduct a public hearing and consider 2nd and final reading of an ordinance change that allows Public Comments (each speaker limited to 3 minutes for a maximum time of 15 minutes) on any subject before council - not just on agenda items.
Council will give 1st reading to the Business License Rate Schedule, an appendix to the business license ordinance.
Council will consider requests: from the Colleton County Chamber of Commerce to hold the annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 21, 6 - 9:30 a.m.; from Tammy Lawton to use Waterfall Plaza on Oct. 17, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., for a Kids Fashion Show; for temporary closure of East Washington Street, between Lucas St. and North Memorial Ave., for First Thursday on Nov. 5, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Committee Reports and the City Manager’s Report - Northwest Walterboro Sewer Improvement Project and bids for the Washington Street Plaza Renovation Project - will conclude the open session agenda.
Closed session items for discussion are: contract with the Walterboro Wildlife Center, and personnel matters from the public safety committee and an employment discussion. Council will return to Open Session for action, if any is required.
