US Fish and Wildlife Service to host workshop for marginalized landowners

Posted

PRESS RELEASE - The US Fish and Wildlife Service will host a free workshop geared toward marginalized landowners in Summerville on October 28 and 29, 2022. This workshop will be open to the public.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is committed to creating new opportunities to assist historically marginalized (i.e., minorities) landowners and communities not traditionally reached. USFWS field staff have participated in a series of workshops aimed at increasing awareness of diverse land ownership in the southeast.

This, our next step, is to focus on identifying specific partnering opportunities for staff to engage historically marginalized landowners & communities, address individual needs, expand the knowledge of landowner assistance programs, and increase awareness for land stewardship and its benefits to species conservation.

Goals for the workshop:

Help us learn more about your properties, priorities, and needs, and, in turn, you can learn about us!

We will provide helpful information related to USFWS financial assistance programs that can be beneficial to you and your lands, as well as identifying assistance opportunities from other organizations!

We can work with you to identify opportunities with natural resource agency staff on project development!

Together, we can gain a better understanding of potential collaborative opportunities that will benefit you, the landowner, as well as improve habitat and conserve wildlife...a win-win!

The event will kick off with education from 1-5:30PM on October 28, 2022. A reception will be held that includes beverages and mingling at 6:30PM. Landowners, lead agencies, partners, and field staff will be present. This will be followed by dinner at 7:15.

On October 29, the day will start with education from 8-10:30AM. Participants will then enjoy a field trip and cookout style lunch at Broadaxe Branch Partners.

The workshop will be held at Courtyard by Marriott, The Rose Room, 1510 Rose Drive, Summerville, SC 29486.
