Three people were injured on Sunday, Sept. 26th when two vehicles collided on McLeod Road.

The 1:19 p.m. crash occurred near the 400 block of McLeod Road, when a Jeep left the roadway and went off onto the shoulder. The driver of that vehicle then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to “slide sideways” into westbound traffic, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Director Barry McRoy.

That Jeep then struck a Chevrolet Trax head-on, said McRoy.

“Both occupants received life-threatening injuries,” said McRoy. “They were one block from their home,” he said.

When firefighter-paramedics arrived on scene, McRoy said they found two “heavily damaged” vehicles in the westbound ditch.

Two ambulances and two medical helicopters were requested.

A 70-year-old man was transported by Fire-Rescue to the medical helicopter landing pad at Colleton Medical Center. The man was then flown to Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

A 69-year-old woman was also taken to Trident Medical Center.

According to McRoy, the second helicopter that was requested was cancelled due to an extended estimated arrival time.

The third patient was taken to Colleton Medical Center by ambulance.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
