Hundreds gathered on Saturday, October 14th to attend the rededication of the Tuskegee Airmen Monument. The monument which is located at the Walterboro Army Airfield Park on the property of the Lowcountry Regional Airport replaces the original monument which was accidentally damaged. The new monument with its vibrant artwork, painted by Aviation Artist Craig Tinder, is a tribute to the ongoing value, history, and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen who trained in Walterboro during World War II.

The rededication was organized by the Hiram E Mann Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen. The event included participation from Walterboro High School, Boy Scout Troop #2, Stall High School Airforce ROTC, Mayor Bill Young, Margie Bright-Matthews and Keynote Speaker James Clyburn. Also included were comments from a surviving Tuskegee airman, 98-year-old Dr. Eugene J Richardson, Jr. Richardson trained in Walterboro at the age of 19 to be a fighter pilot.
