Three Lady Cougar pitchers combine for a no-hitter in win over Wade Hampton

The Colleton County Lady Cougar Softball team earned a 13-1 win over Wade Hampton High School in the regular season opener. Colleton County would face Wade Hampton later in the week and earn a 17-0 shutout win in the second game of the series. In a non-region game against Cane Bay, the Lady Cougars fell 6-2. Colleton County is currently 2-1 overall.

In the win over Wade Hampton on March 7, three Lady Cougar pitchers combined for a no-hitter in the circle. Sydney Stivender led things off in the circle for Colleton County, going two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out four and walking none.

Lanasia Sanders and Shandi Brown each provided two innings of relief.

The Lady Cougars collected 12 hits in the game and stole 17 bases, with Bailey Cox leading the way with four. Makayla Chisolm went 4-for-4 at the plate, singling in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. Chisolm and Maggie Kennedy had multiple hits in the game. Brown, Cox, Sanders, Jordan Slocum, Stivender, and Mackenzie Pellum each had a hit-a-piece.

At home against Wade Hampton on March 9, Stivender earned the win in the circle, going two and one-third innings, allowing one hit, striking out five, and issuing one walk. Maggie Kennedy provided two-thirds of an inning of relief, allowing no hits, and striking out two. Cox led at plate, going 3-3 on the day. Kennedy and Slocum both went 2-3, while Pellum, Riley Adona, and Brown were 2-2. Sanders recorded one hit in the game.

Playing at home on March 14th against Cane Bay, Sydney Stivender took the loss for Colleton County, surrendering six runs on seven hits across seven innings, striking out two. Jordan Slocum, Stivender, and Cox each collected one hit for the Lady Cougars.

“The girls swung the bats really well against Wade Hampton,” said Coach Tootie Edwards. “They are coming together as a team and that makes me very proud.”

Colleton County hosted Goose Creek on March 16 and will travel to Barnwell on March 18 for a double-header.
