Sugar B’s Bakeshop

Sugar B’s Bakeshop is Walterboro’s local bakery. Brittany Burkett opened the shop to combine her love of art and baking. Burkett uses what her mom taught her about baking and even uses some of her families’ recipes in the shop.

Brittany explains, “We grew up with mom making our birthday cakes each year, and I would watch her do that. I finally pestered her to teach me, and she did.

On a day-to-day basis Burkett along with chef Patricia Breeze like to challenge themselves as chefs and bakers. “Some things carry over from week to week, for instance, we may have a brownie but it’s a different type of brownie. We definitely have our chewies each week, our sugar cookies, but mostly the menu changes every week.”

One of their specialties would be custom cakes offering a full range of wedding, birthday and cakes for all occasions. They are all hand painted and almost all the decorations are edible.

They have had great local support from the community. Burkett says, “I see customers at least once a month. So I love that. I grew up here so I thought it was a great place to open up. I knew I’d have that local support already.” They listen to their customers to see what they want and try to incorporate that, because their customers make them successful.

They accept special orders Tuesday through Saturday. The bakery is closed on Sunday and Monday.
