A shooting occurred last night, Monday, 17-July in front of Walterboro Village Apartments, at 601 Green Pond Hwy at 20:40. Fortunately no one was hit, which is remarkable considering the number of shell casings in the road. There was a car nosed into the ditch at the entrance of the apartments. There were additional shots fired after Law Enforcement and Fire-Rescue arrived at the scene. Again, no one was struck, but the shots sounded like they came from behind the apartment complex. A large crowd gathered at that point, but it dispersed very quickly when the shots started being fired again. Green Pond Highway was closed for approximately an hour and half while the incident was investigated. The Walterboro Police Department and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office both responded. Colleton County Fire-Rescue had units there as well. The 9-1-1 Center received multiple reports while the incident was in progress. Dispatchers did a great job relaying information to responding units. Walterboro Police Department can provide information regarding their investigation. They are the lead agency handling the case.
