SCEMD says be prepared

Posted

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division encourages South Carolinians to be prepared for hurricane season. At scemd.org the information they provide can help you and your loved ones (two and four legged) avoid and/or make the best of a bad situation.

SCEMD offers instructions on family disaster planning, what to have in a family emergency kit, emergency preparations for pets, what to plan for family members with medical issues and/or physical limitations, what to do regarding utilities, and more.

SCEMD also has maps that outline evacuation zones. “Know you Zone” is very important this year as some zones have changed. Please go to scemd.org and identify your evacuation zone before an emergency strikes.

SCEMD also has information on recovering after a hurricane or other emergency to assist in the aftermath.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is the coordinating agency responsible for the statewide emergency management program.  SCEMD’s mission is to develop, coordinate, and lead the state emergency management program, enabling effective preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters in order to save lives, reduce human suffering and minimize property loss.  Disasters and emergency situations can happen anytime and anywhere. When disaster strikes, you may not have much time to respond, so it is important that you and your family are prepared.
