A Ruffin family was displaced by a fire that heavily damaged their doublewide mobile home on March 10th. The morning fire was reported on Field Creek Road by a passing motorist Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find the front the structure well involved, with heavy smoke and flames running along the center of the roof line. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly knocked down the fire on the front porch and made entry into the structure through the front door. Firefighters were able to rescue four dogs, a rabbit, two mice and several fish from the burning structure. The fire appears to have started on the front porch, then burned into the living room and attic space. Interior crews had to pull the ceilings in several rooms to reach the fire. Most of the personal belongings in the bedrooms were salvageable, but the home did not appear to be repairable. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene for approximately 3 hours.
