UPDATE: Arrest Made in Shooting on Jeffries Highway

WALTERBORO, SC - On September 10, 2026, Colleton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 10,000 block of Jeffries Highway in Walterboro at 8:38 pm. 

The male victim and his wife were returning home from a sporting event when the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The vehicle’s door was also struck by gunfire, causing shrapnel to enter the vehicle and resulting in minor injuries to the victim’s wife. 

According to the victims, they observed what appeared to be a Black male lying face down on the roadway. Believing the individual may have been struck by a vehicle, they stopped to check on him.

 As the victims stopped their vehicle, a second Black male emerged from the tree line armed with a handgun equipped with a green laser and began firing at their vehicle. 

One suspect has been identified as 17-year-old Isiah Joshua Kenneth Simmons and has been charged as an adult with two counts of Attempted Murder and Possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The investigation remains ongoing regarding the second suspect. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the individuals involved is asked to contact the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office or call 911.

Simmons has a bond hearing scheduled for October 8th at 2:30 pm at the Colleton County Jail.
