The Colleton County Probate Court is requesting the public take special precautions to restrict visitation to the Probate Court. While the Probate Court will remain open to the public, staff requests the public visit the Probate Court only if it is absolutely necessary.

Beginning Monday March 16, the Colleton County Probate Court staff began telephoning individuals with appointments scheduled to determine if the individual’s probate court needs can be handled over the telephone, via email or through the regular mail.

“We are also asking the public to contact the Probate Court prior to any walk-in visits, so that we may determine if these matters may be handled without an in-person visit. Examples of this would be any copies needed of marriage licenses, wills or other Probate Court documents,” said Probate Judge Ashley Amundson.

The public may contact the Probate Court at 843-549-7216 or probate@colletoncounty.org with any questions.

Emergency hearings will continue to be held. Any hearings for non-emergency matters shall be continued to a future date and time. Probate Court staff will be in communication with attorneys and parties to litigation regarding rescheduling. Continuances and extensions will be granted without difficulty.

“Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to serve you,” Amundson said.
