RUFFIN – Mr. C. N. “Sonny” Padgett, 72, of Ruffin, entered into rest Tuesday morning, July 25, 2023, at his residence. Born May 22, 1951, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Chris Padgett and the late Barbara Moyer Quattlebaum. Sonny spent his life in building and construction and worked alongside both of his sons in their construction companies, I.P. Builders and Padgett Construction. He was raised in the former Mount Carmel Southern Methodist Church in Walterboro. Sonny was faithful in his devotion to the Third Masonic District of South Carolina, always in attendance and always doing what he could to help and was previously voted as Master Mason of the year. He was a member and served as Master five times of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge, No. 338 in Round O, prior to moving his membership to Smoaks Masonic Lodge, No. 231. He was a true outdoorsman and was serving as Vice President of Smoaks Hunting Club. He was the infamous creator of the Hog Branch Social Club and he will always be remembered for his outgoing and always humorous personality. He was an excellent cook and was always hosting events and sharing his renowned catfish stew. Surviving are: his wife of fifty-two years, Mrs. Anne Kinard Padgett; three children, Russ Padgett and his wife Stephanie of Ruffin, Ian Padgett of Walterboro, and Lacrisa “Cris” Hudson and her husband Fearis of Columbia; four sisters, Gwen Bunton and her husband Terry of Walterboro, Dell Murdaugh and her husband Michael of Smoaks, Norma Patrick of Columbia, and Annette Henderson of Aiken; a brother, David Quattlebaum and his wife Ann of Aiken; and his step-mother, Alice Padgett Maybin. There are eight grandchildren, Brittney Bagley (Paul), Christopher Padgett (Brittnay), Joseph Padgett (Shawna), Mason Padgett (Caitlin), Gavin Padgett, River Padgett, Tate Garrick, and Logan Garrick; and five great grandchildren, Weston Bagley, Adaline Bagley, Owen Padgett, Porter Padgett, Jaxson McCollum and Annalee Padgett who is due in November; as well as his lifelong best friend, Raymond Beach. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to caregiver Kendall Smith and Edisto Homecare and Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted 10 o’clock Friday morning, July 28, 2023, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Gordon Ackerman officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at the homesite on Getha Road in Ruffin. The family will receive friends from 5 o’clock until 8 o’clock this Thursday at The Brice W.
