Mrs. Betty Jean Aiken Padgett, 85, of Ruffin, entered into rest on Friday, August 22, 2025, at her residence. She was the loving wife of 68 years to the late Sammie K. Padgett, Jr. Born on June 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Aiken and the late Idalia Aiken. Betty was a lifelong member of Bethel Methodist Church in Ruffin. She centered her life around being a homemaker, raising her daughters, and spending time with her grandchildren. She took pleasure in reading, crocheting, and taking care of her yard. She worked for several years at Smoaks Mfg. and was co-owner for over 30 years of Azalea Patch Nursery which was a source of community plants. Surviving are: three daughters, Sheila Smoak (J.D. “Danny”), Theresa Smoak (Johnny), and Sharon Yrizzary (Louis); a brother Tim Aiken (Mae); and five grandchildren: Melody Craven, Courtney Martin, Kerri Kinard, Holly McCrary, and Joshua Smoak; as well as several great-grandchildren; and her beloved fur baby Max. She was predeceased by her husband, her brother William Henry Aiken, Jr., and her daughter, Cynthia Carolyn Wallace. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to FoCCAS, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
