Mr. Lucas Dean O’Quinn of Walterboro, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, March 24, 2024. Mr. O’Quinn was born on March 3, 1933, to Catherine Susan Heape O’Quinn and Hal Monroe O’Quinn.  Mr. O’Quinn grew up and attended schools in Hendersonville, SC. He joined the Navy in 1951 where he was aboard the USS Curtiss (AV-4) which transported the United States’ first and largest hydrogen bomb known as “Castle Bravo” to Bikini Atoll where it was detonated in the South Pacific. He spent several years studying and working in electronics in Columbia, SC prior to accepting a civil service position in Shop 67 of the Charleston Naval Shipyard from which he retired in 1991.
In addition to his wife, Rodgernell Cattels O’Quinn, to whom he was completely devoted for more than 66 years; he is survived by his children, Julie James (Tommy), Michael O’Quinn (Haley), Brian O’Quinn (Michelle) and Sheri Steen (Ron) as well as his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Lee (Guy) and Paula Kolasz (Ed). He was preceded in death by a brother, Mack O’Quinn; and a sister, Francis O’Quinn.
Mr. O’Quinn will forever be fondly remembered for his passion for music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He especially enjoyed listening to his children and grandchildren who also shared his passion.  
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their support during his last months. Also, they want to express a special appreciation to Audrey Varner for the care and support she showed to Mr. O’Quinn and his family over the last few years
A Celebration of Life was held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Barry Morehead officiated.    The family requests memorial donations be made to In His Name - Colleton in Walterboro, 214 Wichman Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, the charity of one’s choice.
