October 7, 1912: Marriage Licenses:

Posted

Licenses Issued by Judge Albert Beach for the week ending October 21 were Mr. Eugene Bailey and Miss Annie Jackson of Walterboro; Mr. Nathaniel Dopson and Miss Edna Murdaugh of Islandton; Launie Creel and Rosa Creel of Cottageville.

Judge Beach says that because of slack business with Mr. Cupid caused by the war situation in Europe, he is willing to help him out by offering the following scale of bargain prices: License $1.00; tying the knot $1.98. Regular price $5.00. Thus, a regular $6.00 knot can now be tied for a total of $2.98. This should be quite an inducement to many of the young couples in these panicky days, and it is now expected that “business will pick up.”
