Charlotte Norwood, Publisher/CEO of The Press and Standard was inducted into the Walterboro Elks Lodge #1988 May 31. Ms. Norwood expressed “she was thrilled to be part of such a wonderful organization that does such good things in the community”

The Elks Lodge is more than a place to eat and a pool to swim in. The lodges are where community and family come together. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was founded to “to promote and practice the four cardinal virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its members; to quicken the spirit of American Patriotism and cultivate good fellowship.” The Fraternal Order of the Elks has hundreds of thousands of members and a history of over 150 years and nearly 2000 lodges in communities all over the country in order to accomplish this goal. With a variety of programs from scholarships, veterans’ services, and a drug awareness program, The Elks are dedicated to making their communities better.
