Murdaugh Tentative Appeal Date Set

The appeal in the Alex Murdaugh federal case has a tentative date of October 29th set for arguments on his federal conviction. The hearing will take place in Richmond, Virginia and is scheduled to last up to three days.

Murdaugh is also appealing his murder sentence in South Carolina State Court.

Murdaugh is basing his appeal on “unprecedented jury tampering” by former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill as to why he should be granted what he has called a “new fair trial.”

In Murdaugh’s previous request for an appeal, Judge Jean Toal said after reviewing the full transcript of the six-week trial, she couldn’t overturn the verdict based “on the strength of some fleeting and foolish comments by a publicity-seeking clerk of court.” Finding that Hill was not a completely credible witness.

Murdaugh is asking the court to either vacate the sentence or send the case back to South Carolina’s federal courts for a redo.
