Motorcycle accident on I-95

Posted

Two people were injured, one seriously, after two motorcycles collided on I-95 near the 57 mile marker northbound. The two Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling northbound in heavy traffic, when one three wheel motorcycle slowed suddenly and the second struck the rear of the first. The impact caused the female driver to fall into the highway and the three wheeled motorcycle overturned on the shoulder. The second motorcycle crashed into the median. Debris littered the highway blocking the northbound lanes. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find the female lying in the middle of the roadway. They began treating her at the scene, as well the male driver of the second motorcycle. Both were transported emergent by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. No medical helicopters were immediately available. Both northbound lanes were blocked for about 45 minutes causing traffic to back up for several miles. Traffic was already moving slow due to another accident that blocked traffic at the 67 mile marker northbound about an hour prior to this accident. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sheriff’s Office and Walterboro Police assisted with traffic control.
