Press Release

SC First responder Assistance and Support Team (FAST) is a statewide first responder peer team that responds to other responders when they are experiencing difficult times. Along with Colleton County Fire Rescue, FAST will be hosting the second Mile In Our Boots Clinicians Academy September 21-24, 2023 in Walterboro. This academy is designed to give clinicians that work with (or wish to work with) first responders an experiential experience that will give them a better understanding of the demands of the jobs when taking care of first responders.  The academy has scenarios that may mimic a call that a responder may run that would land them in a clinical setting - whether that be individual counseling or inpatient facilities.

“The weekend will be full of interactive education-including wearing gear, hearing mayday tones, and more of the sensory aspects of public safety that will allow our clinicians a realistic glimpse into the world of a first responder. Clinicians will participate in different activities that offer unique experiences through experiential learning. The clinician will be challenged while creating new memories and experiences that will be able to be utilized in their practice to best serve public servants”.a first responder.
