The Colleton Prep Middle School Warhawks opened their season with an impressive 18-0 win over Holy Trinity Academy of Beaufort.

The team jumped out to a 12-0 lead at halftime, getting a rushing touchdown from Cole Owens and Perry Corbett. Owens would add a second rushing touchdown in the second half to complete scoring for the Warhawks.

Head coach Josh Craven stated, “We were concerned about how we would play in the wet weather conditions going into the game, but I give our guys a lot of credit as we didn’t have a single turnover or fumble during the game. We executed fairly well for our first game, and getting a shut-out was fantastic.”

Of the defense, Craven noted, “We did a good job of containing their running game for four quarters. I thought that B.J. Gillipsie and Fripp Smoak played a great game on defense. I thought our defense did a great job of tackling and flying to the football. Despite the shut-out, they will have to work on tackling better on the edges.”

The coach also had praise for his offensive line. “We started two seventh graders and three eighth graders on the offensive line,” he said. “They did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage, which enabled us to run the football effectively. This was important due to the weather conditions.”

The Warhawks will be looking for win number two when they host Andrew Jackson at home Thursday night. Game time is 6:00PM.
