Meet two of Colleton’s school resource officers

Posted

Meet Cpl. Chad Cummings and Deputy Phillip Cole, Colleton County school resource officers.

Chad Cummings
The beginning: I got interested in law enforcement when I was young. My dad was a deputy game warden.
Recreation: I love to cook, grill and used to play the trumpet.
Least favorite foods: Bussell sprouts, asparagus and olives.
Favorite food: Any type of seafood.
Favorite TV show: The Big Bang Theory.
Favorite movie: Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Favorite sports team: Clemson.
Favorite music: Classic rock and country.
Best thing about working with Cole: There’s always something funny coming out of his mouth. He’s a clown, but he’s ready to go for it every day.
Cole’s pet peeve: if his hair is out of place.

Favorite childhood memory: Getting up and going hunting with my father.
Advice to kids: Make good choices. One bad choice can ruin the rest of your life.

Phillip Cole
The beginning: I got interested in law enforcement watching cop movies. And that black and gold uniform — you can’t do any better than that. But he wanted to be a movie star as a child.
Favorite food: Steak and shrimp.
Favorite TV show: The Golden Girls.
Favorite movie: Terminator II: Judgment Day.
Favorite sports team: I don’t go to sports much, but my uncle took me to a Carolina game a couple of times, so I guess I’ll go with Carolina.
Favorite music: Classic rock, but I like everything except classical.
Best thing about working with Cummings: He’s very easy-going, almost as if he’s the polar opposite of my personality. And we’re able to put that together. He’s the voice of reason. He reels me in if I get over-zealous. And I appreciate it.
Favorite childhood memory: My father used to work six days a week, so Sundays were the days we went out as a family. We used to go fishing, ride through town, go to Dairy-Land.
Advice to kids: Talk is cheap. If you say something, do it.
