At 10:37 p.m., April 12, Fire-Rescue and Walterboro Police Department units responded to a residence in the 300 block of Chaplin Street in which an adult male was injured in a sword attack.

The man had been involved in an altercation where the assailant used a samurai style sword to strike the victim.

WPD officers cleared the scene and advised the patient was bleeding profusely from a head wound, which Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man for several deep lacerations to the head. These required multiple dressings. Crews administered IV solutions and TXA to compensate for the heavy bleeding.

The man was transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, with additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board to assist with his care.

Walterboro Police Officers are investigating.
