Listening to the King

Posted

Reading through the Bible with me? Then read grab your journal and pen and read 1 Chronicles 10-12. Check out 11:15-19. So often demands, distractions, and disruptions interfere with our ability to discern the still small voice of God. Quite often, it is because we make poor choices and allow the wrong things to sweep into our lives. We live in a culture of urgency. I call it the Law of “Have to.” We have to put our kids in travel ball. We have to work that overtime because the debt is piling up. We have to do all sorts of things that are of no eternal value. The undeniable truth is that we all make choices. We willfully give ourselves over to those things, and not necessarily bad things, that demand our time and attention, distract us from God, and disrupt our spiritual disciplines.

These men, servants of King David, heard his off the cuff remark desiring water from the well in his hometown. Desiring to serve and comfort their king, they risked their lives to get that water for Him. Can we serve our KING with any less fervor? How can we live in such a way as to hear even the whispers of our King?

1) Be ruthless in guarding your quiet time. Read the Bible and pray daily!

2) Be faithful in getting into His word. Not just at quiet time, but throughout the week!

3) Be prayerful all the time. Throughout the day, take time to connect with God!

4) Be a determined listener, subjecting your desires to His plan. Trust Him and obey Him in all things!
