Lady Indians improve to 9-5 in Region X

The Salkehatchie Lady Indians improved to 13-8 overall and 9-5 in NJCAA Division II Region X following wins over conference opponents Guilford Tech (93-38) and Wake Tech (79-61) last week. Salkehatchie’s roster grew by three as players regained eligibility in the past week.

In the win over Guilford Tech on Tuesday, February 1 on the road, the Lady Indians shot 40.4-percent from the floor, went 8-9 in free throws, and had 18 turnovers in the game. Jasmine Norman and Koila Adams led Salkehatchie scoring 18 points each. Adams claimed 3 rebounds and Norman 1. Amari Hunter added 17 points. Other scoring included Omari Kirkland 12, Antwanique Walley 10, Shatyra Moore 7, Lauryn Bell 7, Lakeyn Boyd 2, and Janise Shaw 2.

Against Wake Tech Saturday February 6, Salkehatchie shot 40.4-percent in overall field goals, went 13-22 in free throws, and had 21 turnovers. Amari Hunter led the Lady Indians with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Jasmine Norman and Koila Adams each had 16 points in the game. Other scoring included Walley 10, Bell 9, Shaw 4, Moore 4, and Kirkland 2.

“I was extremely proud of our effort and having my full team,” said Coach Olivia Gaines. “We executed the game plan. Defensively, we were outstanding and had major contributions from everyone.”

Salkehatchie will travel to Catawba Valley (12-2, 9-2) for an important conference game on Tuesday, February 7 before hosting Southwest VA on Saturday, February 12.
