WALTERBORO – Mrs. Myra Louise Lightsey Kitchings, 89, entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2023 at Magnolias of Walterboro, while under the care of Amedysis Hospice. She was the wife of the late Leonard Kitchings, to whom she was married to for 64 years.
Born June 17, 1934 in Estill, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Clifford Lightsey and Effie Phillips Lightsey. Myra was a homemaker who devoted her time to taking care of her family. Her greatest joys in life were being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a huge heart, and was always the one to take care of others. She was a talented seamstress and wonderful southern cook, known for her delicious pound cakes. She never knew how many people would be sitting around the dinner table at night waiting to be fed. While her husband was still alive, they enjoyed gardening and working in the yard together, traveling, camping, fishing, and working in the wood shop together. She was a long-time member of Edgewood Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed singing in the choir, attended the Jackie Hudson Sunday School class and the WMU, she enjoyed taking care of the babies in the nursery, and helping with Vacation Bible School.
Surviving are her daughters, Terri Stallings and her husband, Billy, of Jacksonboro and Connie Kitchings of Walterboro, a sister, Frances Kinard of Barnwell, two grandchildren, Laura Lewis and her husband Ryan of Columbus, OH and Erica Moss and her husband Hunter of Walterboro, and five great grandchildren, Ian Christlieb, Isabella Christlieb, Isla Lewis, Bennett Bazzle, and Saylor Moss, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Otis Lightsey and a sister, Betty Long.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Magnolias of Walterboro for their love, compassion, and care while she was there as well as her nurses with Amedysis, Heather Delong, and Mrs. Leslie Barwick.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 31, 2023, from the graveside at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
