Summer has officially arrived! June 21 marks the first day of summer. The first day of summer can occur on June 20, 21, or 22. On this day the sun will travel its most northern path in the Northern Hemisphere resulting in the “longest day of the year”. The summer solstice officially begins when the sun is at the highest point in the sky which this year is Wednesday, June 21 at 10:58 a.m. The word “solstice” comes from the Latin word solstitium, “sun” comes from the Latin sol, and still or stopped from “stitium”. While the summer solstice will officially kick off summer, I think most of us will agree that summer stopped by and took up residence about a week or two weeks ago. So, head to the beach, lounge by the pool (put on sunscreen!), and grill hamburgers, hot dogs, or whatever you want to grill. Enjoy!
