A Prayer of Remembrance of 9/11

Posted

O God, our Lord, we come to You today knowing that we are not worthy to enter the presence of the King of the world. It is a testimony to Your great love, grace and mercy that YOU Yourself would make a Way --- because of Your great love for us, You would sacrifice Your only Son so that we might have eternal and abundant life.

But our world has grown more dangerous, more violent, more immoral, more selfish in recent years. And unfortunately, Your Church, at least in our nation, has grown cold and compromising, self-centered and complacent. We have failed to be the salt of the earth and the Light of the world. We have failed to present our bodies to You as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to You. We have failed to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, choosing instead in many ways to conform to this world. We have failed to take our thoughts captive in order to obey You. We have failed to love You with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. We have failed to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Forgive us, Lord! Look upon us with mercy and forgive Your people. Fill us with Your Spirit so that in the days that remain, we might represent You well. Have mercy on us, Lord, and have your way with us today as we come not only to remember this devastating event in our national history, but to pledge ourselves anew to be Your Body, Your Bride, Your witnesses to a nation filled with those who do not know You.

Revive us, O Lord!!
