A 31 yr. old man was critically burned in a structure fire on Augusta Hwy., Saturday evening, November 22nd. Colleton County Fire-Rescue units arrived to find an 800 sq ft cooking shed fully involved at a hunting lodge. The fire was endangering several other nearby buildings and a camper. Crews set up on the west side of the main building to combat the fire with another fire engine, set up on the east side of the building to provide protection for the exposures. The cooking shed was destroyed and one other structure suffered damage. The main house, camper and other nearby buildings were saved. While on the scene, 911 advised that a person who was burned at the nearby Circle C truck stop approximately 1/2 mile from the fire scene. Fire-Rescue Paramedics responded to the truck stop to treat the injured man who had been cooking at the hunting lodge when LP Gas ignited, engulfing him and setting fire to the building. The victim received first, second and third degree burns over most of his body. Firefighter-Paramedics and an off-duty nurse from HCA Colleton Hospital provided emergency treatment to the man as CARE Flight responded to the scene, landing in the parking lot at the truck stop. The patient was flown to the Burn Center at MUSC in Charleston.
