In this week’s heat related illness series, the topic is heat stroke. Symptoms of heat stroke are:
High body temperature (103 degrees or higher)
Fast, strong pulse
Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea
Confusion
Loss of consciousness (passing out)
Steps to take if signs of heat stroke occur are:
Call 911 right away-heat stroke is considered a medical emergency
Move the person to a cooler place
Attempt to lower the person’s temperature with cool cloths or a cool bath.
Do not give the person anything to drink.
