Hadwin’s bat propels Cougars to victory

The Colleton County Cougar Baseball team improved to 6-9 overall after earning wins over Battery Creek High School (10-3) and Wade Hampton High School (7-4) last week. The Cougars dropped a heartbreaker in a walk-off in game two of the series against Battery Creek (3-2).

Colleton County is currently 6-9 overall and 3-5 in Region VII-AAAA.

Against Battery Creek High School Tuesday April 12 at home, Colleton County recorded 14 hits in the game and scored seven runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Dustin Hadwin went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Cougars. Hadwin, Warren Hunter, Trey Simmons, JC Poe, and Grayson Cromer recorded multiple hits in the game. Poe, Cam Farnsworth (double), Hadwin (triple), Hunter and Palmer Thomas all recorded hits in the first inning.

Gabe Wolfe earned the win, surrendering two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out five. Bruce Carpenter threw one inning in relief.

On the road against Battery Creek on Thursday, April 14, the score was tied at two runs in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored Goose Creek’s walk-off run. Dakota Dandridge earned the start and went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out one. Hadwin’s bat stayed hot against the Gators, with a homerun in the seventh inning. Cromer, Farnsworth, Poe, and Josh Caldwell each collected one hit.

In the win over Wade Hampton High School on Friday, April 15, the game was tied at four runs in the top of the seventh, when Cam Farnsworth singled on a 3-1 count, scoring the go-ahead run. The Cougars recorded 11 hits on the day, with Hadwin, Caldwell, Breland and Poe having multiple hits.

Cohen Crosby was earned the win in five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Colleton County resumes Region VII-AAAA play this week in a two-game series against Beaufort High School, scheduled for Monday April 18 (home) and Wednesday (away).
