Colleton County High School Cougar Football standout linebacker Daryl Green is headed to Bluefield State College, where he will join the NCAA Division II Big Blue. Bluefield State College competes in the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference in the mountains of Western Virginia.

Green fielded offers from Mount Union College, Westminster College, Elizabeth City State University, Johnson C Smith University, Brevard College and Carthage College. According to Green, he was recruited after reaching out to his position coach on Twitter. “I reached out to my position coach on Twitter, and after seeing my film, we just built a relationship from there,” said Green.

A three-year varsity letterman for Colleton County, Green was selected to participate in the Blitz Border Bowl following his senior season at middle linebacker.

“After multiple talks with the coaching staff about the scheme and fit, I really bought in to Bluefield State College,” said Green. “I knew it was a great opportunity on the field, but the fact they also offered my major, made it a no brainer. I plan to bring energy and hope to play a leadership role even as a freshman. In the classroom and on the field, I just want to better the program. In choosing Bluefield State, academics played the most important role, as all schools offered the opportunity to play football – but it should always come down to education.”

“I would like to thank God first and foremost, but also my mom, dad and sister for the life lessons that eventually helped on and off the field,” said Green. “A special thanks goes to the entire Colleton County coaching staff and Coach Davis,  Aiken and the late Maurice Simmons who pushed me to play the sport. I feel Coach Bowers really helped me to take the next step in my development by pushing me to be great and holding me accountable at all times – on and off the field.”

Green is the son of Nayvone Smith and Daryl Keith Green, Sr. He maintains a 4.1 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to pursue a degree in Humanities.
