The Green Pond H.O.P.E. Inc. is planning their first Back to School Drive on August 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the picnic area, located at 1041 Magwood Bryant Rd. in Green Pond.

The drive is being organized by Romeo Edwards and the Green Pond H.O.P.E. Inc., a nonprofit organization based out of Green Pond. “Our mission is to strengthen children and families of our community by providing essential services to improve quality of life. Our vision is to nurture and empower our citizens of Walterboro,” said Edwards. “We would like for the GP community to know that we’ve been working extremely hard to get this Back to School Drive together all summer.

“We want to make sure that every child in the community receives back to school supplies for the upcoming school year. In addition to giving away the school supplies, we will be giving away $1,000 to two graduating seniors who will be incoming freshmen in college to help them with any additional items that are needed for college,” said Edwards.

Romeo Edwards and GP H.O.P.E. Inc will be collecting school supplies from now until August 6. People can contact Edwards, Takiyah Sheppard or Shawn Cox for donations.

Other sponsors are Big Rome Luxury Shine and Detailing LLC, Everything’s Official Transportation LLC, and vendors who are volunteering from all over the Lowcountry.

“We will have barbers giving out free haircuts and hair braiding beauticians out there braiding hair for free. We will also have registered nurses doing blood pressure checks,” said Edwards.

“This has been a goal for some years in the making. We’ve always had this vision of giving back to the neighborhood that we grew up in,” Edwards said. “This event will help a lot of families out who can’t afford school supplies for their children.”

For donations, call Takiyah at 843-542-5689, Shawn at 843-908-6642, or Romeo at 912-563-5295.
